Frequently asked questions

What is a rent receipt?

It's the document by which the landlord certifies having received payment of the rent and charges for a given period. It proves the tenant is up to date and serves as proof of address or solvency.

What's the difference between a rent receipt and a payment slip?

A payment slip certifies a payment, possibly partial. A rent receipt certifies that the period is settled. For a partial payment, you usually issue a slip for the amount paid, then the receipt once the period is paid in full.

Does a rent receipt need to be signed?

It must clearly identify the landlord certifying the payment; a signature or stamp strengthens its value as evidence. Formal rules vary by country: check the regulations that apply to the property.
